🌿 “Serpent” – Hand-Carved Eastern Red Cedar Sculpture 🌿

The colors in Serpent are vivid, striking, and full of life. Measuring 19.5” tall x 27” wide x 10” deep, this sculpture captures the natural beauty and movement of Eastern Red Cedar in a bold, organic form.

Each curve and contour was revealed naturally as I shaped the wood with rotary tools — I never quite know what will emerge. Parts of the aged cedar give way, uncovering layers of red, violet, and pale gold grain beneath. After carefully sanding the figure, I finished it with a light stain to enhance the color and a protective polyurethane coating to preserve its beauty for years to come — no re-oiling needed.

This piece was crafted from Red Cedar gathered in the woodlands on Cape Cod. Eastern Red Cedar, sometimes called the “Tree of Life” by Native Americans, is known for its rich heartwood and spiritual significance.
